Completing the 2-year progress check

The 2-Year Progress Check is a short written summary of a child's development in communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development. KinderStart saves it, shares it with parents and records your signature.

1. Open the check

Open the Tools tab, tap Reports & Analytics, then 2-Year Check. Under Select Child, choose the child. Drafts auto-save as you work.

2. Complete each prime area

Each prime area has its own tab: Comm, Physical and PSED. On each tab:

• Choose a Professional Judgement: Good Progress, Focus Area or Targeted Support (APDR).
• Fill in The Child's Strengths & Progress (Field A).
• Fill in How We Will Support (Setting) (Field B).
• Fill in How You Can Support at Home (Field C).

To save typing, tap Draft from observations. Pick the observations to use as evidence, and KinderAssist drafts Fields A and C. Field B stays yours, because it's your professional judgement.

3. Finish the summary

Open the Summary tab:

• Switch on Early Identification / SEND if the child has significant emerging concerns or identified SEND.
• Fill in Parent / Carer Voice (Required). EYFS requires parent views and contributions.
• Fill in the Targeted Action Plan: the next steps for the child's development.

4. Generate and share

Tap Generate Report. The check is saved and made into a PDF. KinderStart asks Share with Parents? Choose Share Now, or Save as Draft to share it later. The button then changes to Download PDF.

5. Sign it off

On the Summary tab, the Statutory Sign-Off card appears. Tap Sign & Finalize, draw your signature, then tap Confirm & Sign. The card shows Signed by you. The parent can co-sign once the check has been shared with them. When they do, the check is locked.
