Managing Parental Consents

Missing or mismatched consents are among the most common Ofsted findings. Configuring your consent list before the first child registers means every parent signs exactly what your setting requires—automatically, every time.

Why Customise Consents?

Every childcare setting is unique. While KinderStart provides industry-standard defaults (like photo permissions and emergency medical treatment), your setting may have specific policies regarding:

• Local outings (e.g. visits to the nearby park)
• Sunscreen application
• Topical creams or teething gels
• Observation sharing on social media

How to Configure Consents

Your Master Consents list acts as a template for every new child you add.

1. Tap the Tools tab in the bottom navigation.
2. Go to Business Settings.
3. Select Consents.

Managing Defaults

KinderStart comes pre-loaded with standard consents. From this screen:

• Toggle Enabled: Switch a consent off if your setting doesn't use it.
• Mark as Required: Marking a consent as Required means the parent must select either Granted or Denied before submitting their registration.
• Edit Description: Rewrite the text to match your specific policy wording.

Adding Custom Consents

Need a consent for something specific, like "Permission to walk to the local library"?

1. Scroll to the bottom of the Consent Settings screen.
2. Tap Add Custom Consent.
3. Enter a Label (Title) and a Description explaining exactly what the parent is agreeing to.
4. Tap Save in the header.

How Parents Sign Consents

Once you've configured your settings, the process runs automatically during child registration:

1. Quick Add a child and invite the parent.
2. When the parent logs into the Parent Portal, they see your specific list of consents.
3. They toggle each one Granted or Denied and sign the digital declaration.
