Care Inspectorate reviews and self-evaluation

The 27-30 Month Review gives the parent your written observations to take to their NHS health visitor appointment. The Care Inspectorate Self-Evaluation lets you rate your setting against the Quality Improvement Framework and track what to improve.

1. Open the 27-30 Month Review

Open the Tools tab, tap Reports & Analytics, then 27-30 Month Review. Choose the child.

The review is meant for children aged 27 to 30 months. If the child is outside that age, you'll see OUTSIDE 27-30 MONTH WINDOW, but you can still create it.

2. Assess each SHANARRI indicator

Tap an indicator to open it. There are eight: Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included.

Choose Needs Support, Making Progress or Achieving Well, then write the Practitioner narrative. To draft it from your observations, tap View Evidence & Draft. Tap the indicator again to close it. The progress bar counts how many of the eight you've done.

3. Generate the PDF

Add anything else under OVERALL PRACTITIONER COMMENTS for the health visitor, then tap Generate PDF Report. KinderStart asks Share with Parents? Choose Share Now, or Save as Draft to keep it back.

4. Open the self-evaluation

Go back to Tools, tap Compliance Logs, then Care Inspectorate Self-Evaluation. Tap Start 3-Step Self-Evaluation. Once you've saved one, the button reads Manage Toolkit.

5. Rate the checklist

Step 1. RAG Checklist asks Step 1: How are we doing? across four themes: Leadership, Spaces, Play and Achieve. Rate each question Going Well, Work on or Needs Action. For Work on and Needs Action, write a short note on what you'll do. Each indicator also shows a recommended Care Inspectorate grade out of 6.

6. Save it

Tap Save Self-Evaluation. The toolkit shows Self-Evaluation Active, and the Continuous Improvement Checklist shows how many questions you've rated in each theme. Later, use 2. Evidence Sheets and 3. Improvement Plan to record evidence and track your actions.
